I'll explain here in detail how we harm a dog through the use of the leash jerk, therewith the human use of the neck of a dog will become more consciously and get sensitized perceived and to substantiate why I am so vehemently fend against to have committed myself to such way to work on a dog !!!

…and I am absolutely not alone, many dog trainers, dog behavior therapist  and dog owners feel the same!!

I want to convince dog owners for the benefit of all dogs and the harmony between dogs and their humans, because only when you understand what is wrong and incorrect, you can find really rethink and out from old habits, or let distract yourselves; just so I understand my work as a dog trainer and dog behavior therapist.

The scope of damage to health that can cause by a leash jerk, is enormous and is unfortunately absolutely underestimated by many dog owners, or not consciously perceive.

Moreover, even today leash jerk (also called “leash impulse” or "impulse-training") is still used by many mobile dog trainers and dog places as a training method, moreover they bring their clients to the fact that they apply it themselves, and whitewash this evil!!

It is currently running actually a petition of "PETA" to stop the use of Teletakt (Electricity-Collar) on German dog places and there is also a video for the proof that the Teletakt-Collar is really be applied!! … Some people really know no limits in their educational methods!!

These accused dog trainer tie the dogs during training in their dog places a scarf around their neck to hide the Teletakt Collars (or even so choking collars), from which we can be concluded that they know exactly what for agonizing and prohibited things they are doing with the dogs !!!

More detailed information can be found here and please sign the petitions of PETA ...
I thank you on behalf of the dogs that have to endure this painful exercise :-)

?? Can those dog trainers really be dog loving people ??

Such dog trainers / dog behaviorist you should, for the sake of your dog and your relationship with him, shun, unmask and report to the police, because the application of this Current-Device named Teletakt is strictly forbidden by the Animal Welfare Act in Germany!!! ...and it's really, really not necessary to punish an animal, to teach him something !!!!!!

:-( !!!THESE DOG TRAINERS ARE UNFORTUNATELY ALSO CERTIFIED OF THE CHAMBER OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY

(in German: “IHK”= Industrie und Handelskammer) !!! :-(

... I would like to note that such kind of dog trainers are an eyesore for the Chamber of Trade and Industry – “IHK” - and sting and current Collars are never taught in the IHK audited instruction courses. The active leash jerk, however, is part of the IHK audited instruction courses and unfortunately it is apparently not important enough to the IHK to intervene against it, because otherwise the petitions would not have to work for over two years now against these dog places and their dog trainers!!

Something must be done against this and this is my attempt to make a difference in all dog owners and dog lovers; perhaps in some dog trainers.

In particular dog trainers and dog behavior therapist should work exclusively with positive reinforcement; all other methods of education show inexperience about dogs are outdated and cruel to animals! Good dog trainers lay much emphasis on Calming Signals and give the greatest trouble to create dog training as stress-free as possible.

We see it as our calling, our responsibility and duty to explain, a dog to his owner, to mediate between dog and dog owner and to suggest the dog owner a new, non-violent and humanely ways to treat and train his dog !

... I (and even so all other good and sensitive dog trainers) could never deliberately and consciously treat /train a dog with a Leash Jerk and we would in no way show it to dog owners... There is a difference between an active and a passive leash jerk: Active leash jerk = You tear deliberately and consciously on the leash / Passive leash jerk = The dog jumps from alone in the leash, you could not do anything against that!

Dog trainers, who advise you to leash jerk, do mental and physical violence to your dog and they bring you up to do the same, what shows that their canine skills are apparently good for nothing!!

Think of how your dog would feel under such a violent treatment and how he sees you in the future.

These dog trainers, no matter if they use a electrify colar, a choking collar or active leash jerk on your dog…

… have no understanding of the sensitivity of an animal...

… have not been developed further their knowledge…

… seem not to have its own, dog-loving ability to think…

… have no sense of where violence begins...

… they work with the anxiety of your dog and break its dogs character… money … All this is of no interest to them; they just want to earn money off of you!!! The most dangerous are those who enjoy this type of cruel dog training.

In terms of "Leash Jerk as a Training Method" it unfortunately do not matter whether a dog trainer / dog behavior therapist is untrained, trained, studied and / or been certified, you denied this purely physical, violent type of training at the dog either by conviction or regrettably not!

is not reachable without punishment,

says nothing about the dog,

but rather describes his own abilities?"

Every dog owner should really consider very carefully:

• How he wants to deal with his dog (as subordinate serf or deliberately, with understanding and respect for the needs and body language of his dog)

• In which way he wants to teach his dog something (go convenience, the path of least resistance and working with the fears of a dog and with pain or with positive reinforcement for strengthening and stability of the canine soul in all walks of life at the side of its human)

• How and if he wants to communicate with his dog (by constant nagging and commanding around or by "growing together" through mutual, harmonious, connecting closeness and solidarity, questioningly eye contact and a trusting communication)

Probably it is precisely this point,
which makes the non-violent upbringing so difficult to implement:
It often laboriously ,
it requires creativity,
great affection,
constant self-reflection,
patience,
Time and empathy.

A really good customized harness or collar (harness is much more beautiful!) does not press on the neck and it hence impairs in no way affect breathing, will not press, does not choke and will not squeeze the trachea, larynx or the thyroid gland and will not overburden the neck vertebrae of your dog.

Your dog can thus move freely, accidental jerk on the leash will not perceived as painful or correcting and potential malformations linkages will not even arise:

- Dogs combine perceived pain, pressure or horrors, with what they see, hear or smell!!!! A dog will never understand that its human wants to correct through this act his behavior, all a dog understands by the active leash jerk, will never understand it hurts and when he noticed that his human is the one that triggers the pain, he will learn that his human does him violence.

For example:

A dog sees an unknown conspecific, which frontally runs to him and is gazing at him. He wants to walk a bow (an individual circle = Calming Signal) to run around the staring dog, in order to free him respectfully and de-escalating the way and gets, for trying to evade laterally around the dog, in the individual circle, of his human as a correction a leash jerk. The dog learns that trying to appease in such a situation does not help and is associated with pain, he associated the pain by his throat (= through the leash jerk) with the oncoming dog!! He will try to prevent this pain in a next givenness with this conspecific (at worst, he generalized to all conspecific) = either by aggression or with avoidance / escape behavior.

Leash aggression begins exactly at this point!!

"Especially for dogs,
which react fearfully or defensively aggressive,
plays the attachment figure a significant role:

He or she should help the dog to do something,

where he can feel less threatened.

Of course this will not work,

if he undergoes punishment by his attachment figure for anxiety or aggressive behavior.

Since when creates punishment safety?":

Dog are pushing aches away under strong effort, they fade out their own body feeling; we humans also are helping all people after an accident, are strong for them and bring ourselves and others in safety ... if then comes the ambulance, we are breaking down and now we are in shock = we have fade out our own body feeling and only when we could relax, because now help is there, we feel our own body again.

Just because dogs can ignore their aches away, that does not mean that they don’t feel pain in hindsight and it does not make the slightest difference whether a dog exposing oneself to a passive leash jerk (passive leash jerk = The dog jumps from alone in the leash) or whether it is an active leash jerk offset from its owner (active leash jerk = is deliberately used by the dog owner to correct wrong behavior), both are highly hazardous to health to a dog and it should be reconditioned as soon as possible; to be so trained in proper behavior.

"It does not matter how I designate a command / signal.
But it is not indifferent how I build the command / signal
and/or which emotional and/or physical sensation
the command / signal at the one triggers before me. "

With every jerk / pressure on the trachea, the larynx, the thyroid and the cervical spine there is a risk of injuries, caused by cracks, bruising and contusions, that do heal poorly or none too and scar over bad and/or cartilaginous; dogs who are permanently pulling on the leash, due to lack of breaks, there is no healing process possible!

Many owners of canine seniors think that their dogs coughing, wheezing and gasp for air because their dogs are old but that is in 75% of cases not the reason for these symptoms. = The strong personal injury, the bad and gristly scarring of the injury in the respiratory tract and the impairment of the larynx are the cause for this!!

"Every dog shows desirable behavior.

Even if it's only for a split second.

It is up to us to capture this behavior

And to enhance and expand it."

Suggestions for personal observations of own behavior on a leash

• Observe yourself on your next walk with your dog and you'll find that you very often unconsciously pull and plucking on the leash!! Tip = Stick on a strip of adhesive tape over your "leading arm"" on then you realize exactly how and when you tense your arm, move your arm around unconsciously and pull on your dog!

• An active or passive leash jerk is already one too many!!! I guarantee you - Yourself could not even endure half of these aches on your own neck!! …and everyone should keep in mind that he did not even like it when the scarf, the tie or turtleneck is too tight at the neck!! Isn’t this true…??!!?!

• The seat belt in the car, is attached - to the safety of the dogs – on a harness and not a collar ... why are we doing a difference when we go for our daily walks with the dog ???!

• Next time your dog jumps forward in the leash, pay attention to how much force you need to apply in order to hold him firmly… and then think about the fact that your dog is applying the same force …with his neck!!!

"There are two reasons that speak for a collar:

1. Fear, that the leash jerk could not work fully effective.

2. Fear of losing control over the dog's head.

…you should think about both!”
